CHARLESTON, Ill. – Division I opponent Eastern Illinois University was too much for Illinois College on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Blueboys by a score of 11-1 in eight innings. The loss sends IC to 9-9 overall on the season heading into Midwest Conference play this weekend.
In the last non-conference game prior to the start of MWC action, the Blueboys went with a pitcher-by-committee approach, using a total of nine in the game. IC got through the first two innings and were still deadlocked at 0-0 before EIU put four runs on the board in the bottom of the third.
Dillon Hallemann drove in
Joe Paparelli in the top of the fourth to cut it to 4-1, but the Panthers responded back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. The score stayed at 6-1 until the bottom of the eighth when Eastern Illinois scored five runs to make it 11-1 and end the game early.
Hallemann led the Blueboys with two hits on the day. The other hits for IC came from Paparelli,
Scott Kasting,
Bailey Reed,
Brendan Stanfield and
Cade Hennemann.
Grayson Madey and
Jake Schippert each faced the minimum in one inning of relief.
