SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois College women's golf team ended its 2018-19 season on Friday at The Rail Golf Course, defeating Monmouth College in a head-to-head, match-play event by a score of 4.0 to 1.0.
The Lady Blues got the better of the Fighting Scots in four out of five singles matches, wrapping up many of the wins early on or midway through the back-nine.
Haley Walker was the prime example of that with a quick 6 & 5 win over Jessi Haines.
The other victories for IC came from
Madi Peyton (3 & 2 over Haley Hoekstra),
Brooke Metzger (4 & 2 over Morgan Bennis) and
Ellie Shaw (3 & 1 over Hannah Taylor). Monmouth was able to earn its point on a match that went the distance before Mamie Ambrosch pulled out a 1 Up win over
Lindsay Alewelt.
The Lady Blues end their season on a high note, closing out in strong fashion after an impressive run of Spring season events. IC won both of its match-play events and also topped Monmouth in a stroke-play event at the end of March. In two April tournaments, Illinois College finished second out of seven teams in a tournament hosted by Knox College and were fourth out of eight teams in a field that mostly featured Division II programs at the UIS Invite.
