Shedlowsky Deals Albion Past the Blueboys

Mitch Shedlowsky didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning and shut down IC for seven innings to help Albion get the win on Thursday.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Illinois College baseball team gave up at least one run in the first five innings against Albion College on Thursday, falling into a 10-0 hole against Mitch Shedlowsky and never recovering in an 11-2 defeat to the Britons. The Blueboys fall to 1-5 with two games remaining on their Florida trip.

Albion scored twice in the top of the first inning, but the Blueboys were able to limit the damage by getting two outs on a rundown following a single that drove in a run. The Britons tacked on another run in the second when Joe Turnbull raced around to score on an Illinois College error.

A three-run homer from Kellen Huang in the top of the third was the biggest blow of the game for Illinois College, increasing the deficit to 6-0. Albion scored once more in the fourth to make it 7-0 and then three times in the fifth to up its lead to 10-0.

Heading into the fifth inning, Shedlowsky had not yet given up a hit, but Illinois College finally had some success against him when Cade Hennemann, Brendan Stanfield and Brennan Bergstralh all singled. Bergstralh's two-out single drove in Hennemann and made it 10-1. The score stayed right there until the bottom of the eighth when the Blueboys loaded the bases and Bergstralh was able to make it home, cutting it to a 10-2 game.

Logan Love fell to 0-2, giving up seven runs (five earned) in 4.0 innings. Grayson Madey was effective coming out of the pen, giving up just one hit in 3.0 innings of action.

The Blueboys wrap up Spring Break with two games tomorrow. First up, IC battles Illinois Wesleyan at 1:45 p.m. (EST). That will be followed by a game against Fredonia at 5 p.m. (EST).
