GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's tennis team couldn't put a stop to Greenville University's hot start to its Spring season, falling to the Panthers by a score of 8-1. Greenville won its 10th straight, improving to 10-1 on the season. The Blueboys drop to 1-6 with the loss.
Greenville established a commanding lead early, taking a 3-0 edge after doubles. All three matches were close, with the biggest win for the Panthers coming at No. 3 with a score of 8-3.
Miguel Vaca and
Michael Connolly came up just short at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-7.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Greenville won Nos. 5 and 6 singles at love to clinch the match, then added wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 as well. Illinois College's lone point of the day came at No. 1 singles where Vaca came away with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Daniel Pieplow.
Midwest Conference play starts tomorrow for Illinois College. The Blueboys will travel to face Knox College at 9 a.m., then return to non-conference play with a 12 p.m. neutral-site match against Dominican University. Both matches on Sunday will be in Galesburg, Ill. IC hosts its first true home match of the season on Monday evening against Fontbonne University at 5 p.m.
