LAKE SUZY, Fla. – The Illinois College men's and women's golf teams split two match-play events with Husson University on Saturday at the Kingsway Country Club, wrapping up IC's trip to Florida for Spring Break. The Lady Blues defeated the Eagles, 4.0 to 0.0, dominating each of the four singles matches to pick up the win. The Blueboys came up short against Husson's men's team, dropping a 5.0 to 2.0 decision.
Two of the four matches for the Lady Blues barely had to make the turn. Both
Brooke Metzger and
Megan Hettenhausen gave Illinois College a quick 2.0 to 0.0 lead, winning 8 & 7 over their Husson opposition. Not much later, the IC women's team locked up the 4.0 to 0.0 sweep as
Lindsay Alewelt and
Haley Walker put the finishing touches on a pair of 5 & 3 victories.
Husson was able to get the victory over the Blueboys, though there was very little to separate the two sides. The first three matchups went to the Eagles, with Gavin Dugas defeating Cameron Nickerson, 2 Up. Daulton Wickenden downed Louis Faivre, 3 & 2. Mackenzie Clow was then able to hold off Ryan Kaufmann, 1 Up.
Bryce Oden got the Blueboys on the board with a 4 & 3 triumph over Riley Swanson. Husson wrapped up the win by taking the next two matches, however, with Taylor Morang winning, 2 Up, over Ethan Beck and Eric Dugas completing a 2 & 1 win over Riley Nelson. Alex Anderson put one last point on the board for the Blueboys with a 1 Up win over Nick Mazurek.
The Blueboys return to action on March 23 and 24, competing in the Blackburn Invite in Godfrey, Ill. on Saturday and Wood River, Ill. on Sunday. The Lady Blues host the IC Spring Invite at The Links of Jacksonville on March 24, starting at 12 p.m.
