Lady Blues Close Season with Come-from-Behind Victory over Lawrence

Down five at the break, Illinois College ramped up its defensive pressure and won going away on Saturday over Lawrence, 74-58.

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's basketball team stormed back on Saturday afternoon from a five-point halftime deficit to earn a 74-58 win over Lawrence University on Senior Day at Sherman Gymnasium. Sydney Lett led all scorers in her final collegiate game, scoring 16 points and handing out eight assists to lead the Lady Blues to the win. IC finishes up the year at 10-15 (6-12 Midwest Conference).

Lawrence opened the game on a 6-0 run, though Illinois College did rally back to take a lead before the end of the opening quarter thanks to nine points from Grace Yaunches. After one, LU led the Lady Blues, 14-13, and the lead increased to 31-26 at the break after the Vikings closed the half on a 10-1 run.

The Lady Blues came out as the aggressors in the second half, starting off on an 11-0 run sparked by Brielle Greenleaf and Carly Cameron to take a lead they wouldn't give up the rest of the way. An and-one layup from Krista Bass to end the quarter made it 51-43.

The closest the Vikings could get in the fourth quarter was six, but Illinois College quickly answered back. In the last 4:30 of action, the Lady Blues ended the game on a 14-3 spurt with nine points coming from Lett to clinch it.

Besides Lett, three other IC players ended in double-figures on the day. Yaunches came off the bench to score 15 points. Cameron added 13 and Greenleaf had a double-double in her last game for the Lady Blues with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Greenleaf wraps up her career ranked third all-time in scoring at IC with more than 1,300 points. Sydney Himmelman led all rebounders in the game with 12. Senior McKenzie Skaggs added five points and three rebounds, including the layup that pushed the lead back to eight when the Vikings made their run in the fourth quarter.
