ELMHURST, Ill. – The Illinois College men's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play on Sunday with a 93-68 loss to #16 Elmhurst College. The Blueboys shot 33.3 percent from the field in both halves and couldn't keep up with a Blue Jay team that knocked down 13 three-pointers in the contest. IC slips to 3-6 overall on the season with the loss.
Illinois College and Elmhurst were even for about four minutes.
Caleb Frederking knocked down a jumper that tied the game for the third time at 7-7 early on. From there, the Blue Jays went on an 8-0 run and never trailed again.
Trae Robinson III ended the run with a dunk and
Jaxson Dian followed with another basket to get the deficit back to four, but another 8-0 run from Elmhurst followed. By halftime, the EC advantage was up at 14 points at 47-33.
In the second half, both Frederking and Dian nailed three-pointers in the opening minutes to bring Illinois College back within single-digits at 49-41. Elmhurst responded to the challenge with 16 straight points. The lead grew to as much as 29 points in the final eight minutes.
Jake Mazrimas led Illinois College with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Dian had 15 points and Frederking added 13.
Illinois College resumes Midwest Conference play on January 3, hosting Lawrence University in Sherman Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
