JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team fell behind by a pair of goals in the first half and couldn't make up the difference in a 3-0 loss to Grinnell College to close out the 2019 season. The Lady Blues wrap up their season at 5-13-0 overall.
Illinois College tried to live on the counter-attack and had some occasional success in causing a few panicked moments from the Grinnell defense in the early going. Despite that bright start, Grinnell took the lead in the 10th minute on a goal from Celeste Kaspar and then doubled it in the 16th minute on a curling shot to the upper 90 from Lauren Edwards to make it 2-0 at the break.
The Lady Blues soaked up pressure in the second half and had few chances to break downfield. The Pioneers put the match away with a goal from Alyssa Radakovich in the 71st minute.
The match at England Stadium was the final one for three members of the IC squad.
Olivia Dobbs was out due to an injury, but took the opening kickoff before being subbed out. With only a few minutes remaining,
Charlotte Crofton and
Carlee Fowler were subbed out for the final time.
The Lady Blues ended with three shots in the match.
Katie Elmore had two of those and both forced saves from Elizabeth Hunt.
Annie Burns had the other shot. Crofton made 20 saves in the match and ends her year with exactly 200. That number is second all-time in a single season in program history and she ends with 470 saves for her career, also second in Illinois College history.
