APPLETON, Wis. - The Illinois College football team put a damper on the Lawrence University Homecoming celebration on Saturday, scoring the first 55 points of the game in a 55-10 victory over the Vikings. It was all Illinois College from the opening kickoff when
Zach Thompson returned the ball to nearly the 50-yard line. With a short field, IC drove 53 yards in six plays, scoring on a four-yard run from
Trevor Smalls to make it 7-0.
Trevor Nott would add a five-yard TD run later in the quarter and
Drew Chance would then connect with
Allen Smith for a 45-yard strike, making it 20-0 after 15 minutes. The quarter would end with a
Kyle Lane interception and return into Lawrence territory, setting the stage for another IC touchdown early on in the second quarter.
Chance made it 27-0 on a one-yard run on fourth down on Illinois College's opening drive of the second. Later on,
Ju'Qui Womack would score on a
Jaylin Swan blocked punt and Chance and Smith would connect again on a 41-yard score to make it 41-0 at the break.
The onslaught continued in the third quarter as Chance found
Christian Hernandez for a short touchdown pass and Womack scored his second touchdown of the day with a 64-yard pick-six for a 55-0 lead. From there on out, the Blueboys made mass substitution and LU was able to score on a field goal midway through the fourth quarter and again with a touchdown with less than 10 seconds to play.
Chance was 12-of-21 for 221 yards with three scores. Smalls led the ground game for the Blueboys with 60 yards on 14 carries. Smith hauled in six passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to the interceptions by Lane and Womack,
Bobby Carr II also had an interception.
