LINCOLN, Ill. - The Illinois College swimming and diving team was able to pick up its first win on the young season to improve its dual-meet record to 1-1. The Lady Blues and the Blueboys were able to rebound from their loss a night before. This was a complete team win as Illinois College won ten events, capped off by a new school record. The Lady Blues defeated the Lynx by a score of 104-93 and the Blueboys defeated the Lynx, 91-71.
The highlight of the meet was the record-setting dive by
Donna Jenkins. In the 3-meter diving contest, she scored a 186.50. Jenkins did not waste any time setting this new record in the inaugural diving contest for Illinois College in the 2019-20 season.Â
The IC women's team had a very productive afternoon with five event victories for the Lady Blues. The team began the day by winning the 200 Medley Relay.
Hannah Baker started off the day swimming a 31.42 Backstroke,
Hannah Marks swam a 31.63 Breaststroke,
Kate Edelstein swam a 29.92 Butterfly, and the anchor for the Lady Blues,
Marjori Russo, swam a 26.50 Freestyle. This quartet combined to swim a 1:59.47.Â
In individual events, Russo won the 50 Freestyle in a convincing 27.05 clip. The Lady Blues took the top four places in the 500 Free. The winner was
Cassie Reeve (6:11.79), followed by
Jacquelin Castellon (6:16.03),
Caitlyn Gallagher (6:16.65) and
Lindsay Bruce (6:20.45). Marks also won the 100 Breaststroke in 1:11.82.Â
Finally, the Lady Blues won the 200 Free Relay. Baker led off, swimming a 29.60 lap. Gallagher followed suit, swimming her lap in 30.36. Reeve followed with a 28.58 lap. The anchor for the Lady Blues, Bruce, swam a 27.52 to secure the victory.Â
The men had an equally productive day, snagging first place in six events. To start things off for the Blueboys, Marty Ambre won the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:50.60 with Myles Genrich right behind in second place (11:09.09). Jake Howey won the 200 Freestyle by a whopping 12 seconds (1:58.21). Monte Bushman won the 1-Meter Diving (107.95 points). Colin Williams won the 100 Breaststroke (1:10.58). Finally, the men won the 200 Free Relay. Owen Sheridan started the swimming with a 24.47 lap. Steven Lorett copied Sheridan's 24.47 pace. Jake Howey swam an impressive leg of 23.77. The anchor for the Blueboys, Marty Ambre, swam his closing lap in 23.55.
The Lady Blues and the Blueboys will be back in the pool on November 2, taking on Knox College and Principia College at 1 p.m. here at the Coultas Natatorium.Â
