JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team ended non-conference play on Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to Fontbonne University at England Stadium. The loss drops the Lady Blues to 5-6-0 on the season.
Charlotte Crofton was all over the place in the opening 45 minutes, making every save she had a chance to and even some that she had no right to. Unfortunately for the senior goalkeeper, Fontbonne had an unstoppable shot off the foot of Caroline Neal in the 12th minute, finding a corner of the goal after a pass from Kierstyn Weaver opened her up in the middle of the box. Crofton ended with nine saves in the first half but Illinois College went to the half trailing, 1-0.
The second half was more of the same, except with
Savannah Henson in goal. Henson also ended with nine saves after halftime in relief of Crofton but it was to no avail. Illinois College's few chances on the counter-attack were quickly snuffed out by the Fontbonne defense. The final nail in the coffin came in the 83rd minute on a Weaver shot from in close after a clash of bodies right in front of Henson.
Illinois College stays home this weekend, playing Knox College on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
