IC Women’s Tennis Rolls over Blackburn, 9-0

Everyone in uniform earned at least one point on the night for the Lady Blues.

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Despite the wet weather outside, the Illinois College women's tennis team was able to get its first win of the 2018 season on Thursday night as the Lady Blues went inside to King Fieldhouse to knock off Blackburn College, 9-0. The win improves IC to 1-2 on the season with the start of Midwest Conference play right around the corner.

With Blackburn only traveling four players, Illinois College began the match with three points in hand. Following wins in both doubles matches, the Lady Blues had five points and the match was decided. Kalisa Goertz and Sydney Lett teamed up for an 8-2 win in the No. 2 doubles match, while Sophia Roth and Kathryn Ryan earned the victory at No. 1, 8-3.

With only three courts available inside, three of the four singles matches then got underway while the last match was forced to wait. Roth made sure that Madelyn Deardorff didn't have to wait long however, logging a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Erich Bechtold in the No. 2 match. Ryan and Sally Hixson weren't far behind at Nos. 1 and 3, notching identical 6-0, 6-1 wins. The final point of the night came from Deardorff at No. 4 as she defeated Asia Coleman, 6-1, 6-4.

Illinois College starts MWC competition away from home on Sept. 8 with two matches. First up is a 9 a.m. meeting with Lake Forest College. Later in the day, IC will trek to Wisconsin and take on Beloit College at 3 p.m.
