Ripon Pierces IC’s Defense for Six Goals

Paige Pierce recorded two goals and two assists, playing a huge part in Ripon’s 6-0 victory over Illinois College.

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team wasn't able to make it a perfect 2-0 weekend at home on Sunday, falling to Ripon College by a score of 6-0. Coming a day after the Lady Blues won their first Midwest Conference match of the season, the loss drops them to 5-7-0 (1-2-0 MWC) on the year.

Paige Pierce was a one-person wrecking crew early on for Ripon. In the opening 15 minutes of the match, she assisted on both of Ripon's goals to take a quick 2-0 lead. The first came from Camrie Schmitz in the 12th minute and the second was from Brianna Schnell in the 15th minute. From there, Pierce added Ripon's third goal of the contest just before the break. She fired home from outside the 18-yard box in the 44th minute over the outstretched arms of Lindsey Kormelink.

Schmitz added her second goal of the contest on a weaving run through the Illinois College defense in the 52nd minute. Pierce netted her second goal in the 58th minute on another long shot from outside the box. Ripon's final goal came in the 83rd minute from Olivia Ambrose.

Illinois College had moments on offense, but couldn't find the final touch to break through for a goal of its own. Katie Elmore ended the match with five of IC's eight shots. Ashley Brokaw added two and Jenny Montelongo had a shot that nearly found the back of the net from near the center line. Kormelink produced eight saves in the contest.

The Lady Blues will have a week off to prepare for their next match, an Oct. 7 home date with Cornell College at 1:30 p.m.
