Chicago Runs Away with Win over Blueboys

Though Illinois College struck first, Chicago scored 49 unanswered points after that and ended the day with a 56-9 win.

CHICAGO, Ill. – Though the Illinois College football team got on the board first on Saturday, the University of Chicago took over from there. The Maroons at one point scored 49 unanswered points and picked up their first win of the season by a score of 56-9. The loss sends IC to 0-3 on the year.

Early on in the contest, an interception by Carter Hilley set the Blueboys up in good field position on the Chicago side of the field and they were able to cash it in with a 30-yard field goal by Zack DeWitt to take a 3-0 lead. On the ensuing possession for the Maroons, a 28-yard touchdown pass from Jeffrey Jackson to Dante Nepa put the home team on top.

Within the first five minutes of the start of the second quarter, Chicago put two more touchdowns on the board. Jackson's second touchdown pass of the day made it 14-3 and Nick D'Ambrose then made it 21-3 with a two-yard plunge.

The Maroons put the game away with three touchdowns on their first three possessions of the second half. Another touchdown run from D'Ambrose early in the fourth quarter gave Chicago a 49-3 lead on Illinois College. In the last five minutes of the contest, the Blueboys went on a long scoring drive, going 82 yards on 13 plays. IC hit paydirt for the only time on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Deavon Puck to Hunter Toeben. Chicago would score late in the game to make it 56-9.

Illinois College ended with 303 yards of total offense, 224 of which came through the air. Drew Chance was 20-for-42 for 125 yards and he also led IC on the ground with 46 yards on eight carries. Mason Farris hauled in eight passes for 56 yards.

The Blueboys return home to England Stadium and welcome in Beloit College on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The game under the lights will be the 1,000th game in program history.
