Aurora Jumps Out Early on Blueboys in 6-1 Win

Five first-half goals put the match away for Aurora as the Blueboys dropped to 0-2-0 on the year.

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – Aurora University exploded out of the gates on Sunday with five first-half goals in a 6-1 victory over the Illinois College men's soccer team. The Blueboys were able to take something away from the match with a 74th minute strike from Ryan May. IC slides to 0-2-0 with the loss.

Attacking opportunities were hard to come by in the first half for Illinois College and Aurora had a 10-0 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes. Using sustained pressure, the Spartans struck in the eighth, 14th, 24th, 36th and 45th minutes to go into the break with a 5-0 lead.

In the second half, Aurora added onto its lead with a 62nd minute header to go on top, 6-0. Illinois College then tallied its first goal of the season in the 74th minute when a Ryan May shot took a deflection on the way through and got past AU's keeper to open the senior's account. Thomas Saitta had the assist on the goal.

Other than May's goal, shots in the match for Illinois College came from John Antoine, Josh Schmidt and Brock Ziegemeier. Raul Rubalcava and Mitchell Stonehouse each made two saves in goal.

The Blueboys continue their five-match road trip to start the season on Sept. 8 with a 7 p.m. clash at Westminster College (Mo.).
