JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College swim teams had a very successful end to 2018 on Saturday, sweeping a quad meet at Coultas Natatorium against Knox College, Lincoln College and North Central College. The day also produced two new school records and a total of four changes to the IC record book.
The first individual event of the day was the 1000 Freestyle. In it,
Marty Ambre crushed his previous school record by nearly 16 seconds, recording a time of 10:28.99. Caitlyn Bowser also had a school record in the event on the women's side, eclipsing the old mark with a time of 12:20.94.
Both of the other record book updates came from the Lady Blues. In the first race of the day, the 200 Medley Relay team of Kate Edelstein, Hannah Marks, Marcella Jacquemain and Lindsay Bruce recorded the fifth-best time in school history with a 1:59.96. Later on in the day, Marks added on the fifth-best 100 Breaststroke time in program history at 1:09.43.
Of the 28 events on Saturday, Illinois College racked up wins in 10 of them. Besides Ambre in the 1000 Freestyle and Marks in the 100 Breaststroke, those wins were recorded by Edelstein (2:12.51) and
Isaac Daigle (1:56.27) in the 200 Freestyle, Marks in the 50 Breaststroke (31.94), Jacquemain (1:08.68) and
Steven Lorett (1:00.94) in the 100 Butterfly, Daigle (50.67) in the 100 Freestyle, Hannah Baker (1:06.68) in the 100 Backstroke and, finally, the men's 200 Freestyle Relay team of
Mike Weisenfelder, Ambre,
Jake Howey and Daigle with a time of 1:33.14.
Illinois College returns to action on Jan. 12, 2019 with its fourth and final home meet of the season, taking on the University of St. Mary's (KS) at 1 p.m.
