LINCOLN, Ill. – The Illinois College women's basketball team kept rolling on Tuesday night, winning its third straight game with a 64-52 road victory at Lincoln Christian University. The Lady Blues limited the Red Lions to less than 30 percent shooting from the floor to improve to 3-2 on the year.
Lincoln Christian started well and were ahead, 6-2, before Illinois College took the lead with a 7-0 run sparked by
Sydney Lett. The senior assisted on
Carly Cameron's bucket to make it 6-4, then tied the score on a short jumper. After she recorded a steal, she had the assist on
Madi Peyton's go-ahead bucket. Another run by the Lady Blues to end the quarter gave them a 17-12 lead after 10 minutes.
The Red Lions opened the second quarter well and closed to within a point at 21-20 before
Megan Price knocked down a three,
Grace Yaunches hit a free throw and
Krista Bass scored on a putback to make it 27-20. By halftime, the Illinois College lead was up to 37-28.
Yaunches started the second half with a 15-footer to give Illinois College its first double-digit lead of the night. The Lady Blues would then score the first five points of the half to extend the lead to 42-28. Late in the quarter, free throws from
Madison Schoenfeld and Lett made it 51-33 entering the fourth.
Early in the final quarter, the Illinois College lead grew to 21 points at 56-35. Lincoln Christian had one final push in it, going on a 7-0 run to make the final minutes more interesting. A three-pointer from
Maggie Dooley helped the Lady Blues stem the tide and emerge with the 12-point win.
A total of 13 players scored on the night for IC, led by Lett's 10. Cameron ended with nine points and eight rebounds, while
Sydney Himmelman added eight boards as well. Becca Adams led the Red Lions with a game-high 16 points.
Illinois College continues its road trip with a Nov. 25 matchup at Millikin University. Tip-off in Decatur is scheduled for 1 p.m.
