JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - In a match that saw both teams battling very breezy conditions, Lake Forest College emerged as the victor, downing Illinois College by a score of 2-0. The Lady Blues slip to 6-11-0 (2-7-0 Midwest Conference).
Illinois College fought a tough Lake Forest defense from the opening whistle. The Lady Blues found themselves working more in their own defensive third than they would have preferred. Lake Forest tallied 14 shots in the first half. One of them was able to sneak its way by the keeper, with Sangjun Hornewer redirecting a free kick for her second goal of the year.
Lindsey Kormelink managed eight saves in the half, keeping Illinois College's deficit at 1-0 leading into the break.
Illinois College shut down the Foresters much more in the second period. Clean shots came few and far in between for Lake Forest, as the IC forwards began pushing forward more.
Olivia Dobbs recorded the first shot for Illinois College in the half, but it sailed wide. Grace Monshausen added to the Forester's score with a far post ground shot that gave Lake Forest a 2-0 lead, which would end up being the end result.
The Lady Blues wrap up their 2018 campaign on October 27 with a trip to Iowa to face Grinnell College. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
