MADISON, Wis.
– The Illinois College women's tennis team concluded the Fall season on Sunday with the singles portion of the Midwest Conference Championships. Competing in the Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 brackets, the Lady Blues brought home two consolation championships.

The two winners of the consolation titles were Sally Hixson at No. 2 singles and Kalisa Goertz at No. 3 singles. Hixson entered the No. 2 draw as the No. 5 seed but lost her opening match to Claire Hetzel of St. Norbert, 6-0, 6-1. She recovered in short order to defeat Monmouth's McKenzie DeVilder, 8-6, in the consolation semifinals and Lawrence's Katie Nottberg, 8-4, in the consolation final. Goertz was the No. 6 seed in the No. 3 draw and lost her quarterfinal match to Lake Forest's Leeza Bodnar, 6-2, 6-1. Like Hixson, Goertz rebounded and was able to put away Knox's Kathryn Allee (8-2) and Ripon's Samantha Kiesner (8-3) for the consolation title.

In other brackets, Sophia Roth took the No. 7 seed into the No. 1 singles draw. In her opening-round match, she defeated Lawrence's Annie Harincar, 0-6, 6-1, 6-3. In the quarterfinals, she fell to No. 2 seed and the eventual champion, Julie Lord of Lake Forest, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, No. 9 seed Madelyn Deardorff fell in the opening round to Lawrence's Alexis Shannon, 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, she was defeated by Monmouth's Rachael Leifheit, 8-0.

The Lady Blues wrap up the Fall portion of their schedule at 5-9 (2-7 MWC). A Spring schedule for the Lady Blues will be released in the coming months.
