Swimming Teams Split with North Central as Jacquemain Sets New School Record

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College swimming teams managed a split of a dual meet with North Central College on Saturday. The Blueboys won their dual by a score of 62-31, while the Lady Blues were defeated, 67-27. In spite of the loss, Marcella Jacquemain secured a new school record for the IC women in the 1000 Freestyle.

The day opened with a win for the Blueboys in the 400 Medley Relay. Ben Allen, Oak Wattanasirakul, Elijah Rhoad and Mike Weisenfelder combined for a time of 3:59.41 to outpace the Cardinals by nearly three seconds. The Lady Blues team of Hannah Baker, Hannah Marks, Marcella Jacquemain and Lindsay Bruce were second in the same event in 4:35.85.

Next up was the 1000 Freestyle and the Blueboys went 1-2 in the event as Martin Ambre won with a time of 11:06.24, the second-fastest time in school history. Following him in second place was Nick Amodeo in 12:26.71. That set the stage for Jacquemain, and the junior sliced nine seconds off the previous school record as she swam a 12:24.33. Maddie Headtke took third in the race with a 12:49.06.

Both teams got victories in the 200 Freestyle. For the Illinois College men, Rhoad won his race easily with a time of 2:03.20. Bruce took the title in the women's 200 with a 2:10.77.

Another big event for both squads was the 400 IM. Allen took the men's race in a flat 4:46.00 while Marks recorded the fifth-fastest time in women's program history with a time of 5:15.88.

The Blueboys had a number of other victories in individual events. Rhoad took first in the 100 Butterfly (1:00.21), as did Ambre in the 100 Freestyle (53.11). Allen won the 100 Backstroke (1:02.70) and Wattanasirakul took first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:04.99). 

In the day's final event, the Blueboys capped their win with a triumph in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Allen, Weisenfelder, Rhoad and Ambre totaled a time of 1:35.76 to out-touch North Central by less than a second. The Lady Blues were second as Audrey Earle, Bruce, Baker and Marks ended with a time of 1:52.40.
