Blueboys Explode for 61 Points in Rout of Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. – The Illinois College football team got its offense rolling on Saturday night in a 61-29 defeat of Beloit College. The Blueboys had nearly 500 yards of total offense, including more than 300 through the air as Drew Chance threw five touchdown passes in the victory. With the win, IC goes into Midwest Conference South Division play at 1-3, while Beloit will enter MWC North Division competition at 0-4.

Illinois College started quickly, scoring two touchdowns in the first five minutes of the game. Chance connected with Logan Uyetake for 26 yards and again to Glen Gibbons Jr. for 13 yards to put the Blueboys on top, 14-0. Beloit would rally and tie the game at 14-14 in the second quarter before Gibbons Jr. hauled in his second touchdown pass of the game in the final minute of the first half to give IC a 21-14 advantage at halftime.

On Beloit's opening possession of the third quarter, the Buccaneers drove into the Illinois College red zone before being pushed backwards by a penalty and a sack by Logan West. Vincent Vanhorne then ended the threat with an interception in the end zone to keep the Blueboys on top. Starting on its own 20, IC went the length of the field in 19 plays, wiping more than seven minutes off the clock and capping the drive with a one-yard plunge by Jason Barbour. A Beloit response on a 50-yard slant made it 28-21 entering the final quarter.

In the final 15 minutes, the Blueboys turned unstoppable. A blocked punt and a 22-yard return from Steve Reyna for a score made it 34-21. Later on, Uyetake went in from 44 yards out for a 40-21 lead. On Beloit's next drive, Vanhorne intercepted the ball on the first play from scrimmage and took it to the house from 26 yards out to make it 47-21. Before the dust settled, Chance found Kyle Obertino from five yards out and Blake Matson hit Cole Peters from 14 yards out to put Illinois College on top, 61-21. Beloit had a late touchdown and two-point conversion to close the scoring.

Chance ended the game 26-of-40 for 381 yards and five scores. Uyetake was the leading receiver for IC with eight catches for 150 yards. Obertino hauled in seven passes for 107 yards and Gibbons Jr. had six catches for 70 yards. Steven Evanoff was the leading rusher in the game for Illinois College with 22 yards on three carries.

JD Roesch was the leading tackler for the Blueboys with eight tackles (six solo), including two for a loss. West had seven tackles (six solo), including two for a loss. Vanhorne had three tackles and two interceptions. Reyna also had an interception in addition to his punt return touchdown.

The Blueboys celebrate Homecoming on Oct. 7 with a 1 p.m. kickoff at England Stadium against Cornell College.
