By: The Lady Blues closed out a successful opening weekend with a 9-0 shellacking of Blackburn College on Sunday afternoon.
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team returned home for its third match in two days, but didn't show any signs of wear and tear, dominating from start to finish in a 9-0 victory over Blackburn College on Sunday. The Lady Blues are now 2-1 on the young season.
In doubles action, Illinois College won two of the three matches at love. Only in No. 1 doubles did Blackburn manage to take a game, and even then the duo of
Sally Hixson and
Lisa Noggle easily won it by a score of 8-1.
Ariel Rhoades and
Lena Reed were winners at No. 2 and
Kalisa Goertz and
Madelyn Deardorff won at No. 3.
In singles, Reed (No. 4), Goertz (No. 5) and Deardorff (No. 6) all won their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Noggle was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 2, while Hixson (No. 1) and Rhoades (No. 3) each closed out with 6-2, 6-0 victories.
The Lady Blues begin Midwest Conference play on Sept. 6 at home at the Bellatti Tennis Complex with a 5 p.m. match against Knox College.
