Monmouth Sneaks Past Illinois College, 7-2

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team lost a close, 7-2 decision to Monmouth College on Tuesday night at the Bellatti Tennis Complex. A number of matches went down to the wire, but the Scots eked out the majority to the get win, improving to 3-11 (2-5 Midwest Conference) while the Lady Blues dropped to 4-8 (1-6 MWC).

In doubles, Monmouth took a 2-1 lead after a pair of 8-6 victories at Nos. 1 and 2. Kalisa Goertz and Madelyn Deardorff won the No. 3 doubles match with an 8-5 win to keep the Lady Blues in the match.

Goertz also provided Illinois College with its other point on the night, sweeping Lexi Tibbs at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Monmouth won four of the other five singles matches in straight sets to get the victory. Lena Reed took the No. 4 singles match to a tiebreak before falling, 7-6(5), 5-7, 3-10. 

At No. 1, Katherine Hinman defeated Sally Hixson, 7-5, 6-3. Emma Johanns was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Lisa Noggle at No. 2. In the No. 3 match, McKenzie DeVilder downed Ariel Rhoades, 6-2, 6-3. The other match was a 6-3, 6-2 win for Natalie Curtis over Deardorff at No. 6.

The Lady Blues play their final non-conference match of the season on Oct. 4, going on the road to battle Westminster College (MO) in Fulton, Mo. at 5 p.m.
