CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team made it two wins in a row on Tuesday afternoon with a 5-0 thumping of Blackburn College. Ashley Sholmire's hat trick put the game away, but Mackenzie Bedgood and Mychaela Bennett each netted as well for the Lady Blues, who improve to 3-8-0 on the season.

Illinois College was all over Blackburn from the start, registering 32 shots in the first half alone. One of those was bound to open the scoring and it was Sholmire doing the honors in the 17th minute off an assist from Bennett. The Beavers managed only one shot in the first 45 minutes and it was not on target. Only the goalkeeping of Maria Cline with nine first-half saves kept the match in striking distance for the home side.

The outcome wouldn't be in question for much longer. Sholmire scored again in the 49th minute from a Josie Garfat pass and then put the finishing touches on her hat trick in the 60th minute, once again on an assist from Bennett.

In the 64th minute, Bennett's third assist freed up Mackenzie Bedgood to push the Illinois College edge to 4-0. Bennett then got on the board herself, recording a 70th minute goal from an Abby Isham feed. Blackburn had six shots in the second half, but Charlotte Crofton had three saves to preserve the shutout.

Midwest Conference play resumes on Sept. 30 with a home match against Grinnell College from England Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
