Lady Blues Silence Blackburn, 9-0

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team defeated Blackburn College in a non-conference matchup on Saturday morning, sweeping the Beavers by a score of 9-0. The win moved the Lady Blues to 4-7 overall on the season, the most wins by the program since the 2013 team ended with a 6-4 record.

IC pulled away quickly with three doubles victories, downing Blackburn at love in the Nos. 1 and 3 matches. At No. 2, the Lady Blues were 8-3 winners to take a 3-0 lead in the match.

In singles action, Kalisa Goertz and Madelyn Deardorff won the Nos. 5 and 6 matches, 6-0, 6-0. Lena Reed picked up the victory at No. 4, taking a 5-1 lead in the first set before her opponent retired.

Though the win was already clinched, there were still three matches to finish. At No. 3, Ariel Rhoades won her match by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Lisa Noggle struggled early, but came on strong for a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2. At No. 1, Sally Hixson overcame poor calls from her opponent and easily took control in the second set for a 6-3, 6-0 triumph.

Midwest Conference play resumes on Sept. 26 at the Bellatti Tennis Complex. The Lady Blues host Monmouth College in a match beginning at 5 p.m.
