JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- St. Norbert College racked up five second-half goals and took down the Illinois College women's soccer team, 6-0, in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams. The Green Knights outshot the Lady Blues, 31-7, in the contest. SNC improves to 4-4-0 (1-0-0 MWC). IC falls to 1-8-0 (0-1-0 MWC).
Dana Schwab put the Green Knights on the board first, scoring at close range from a Madalyn Sanderfoot assist.
Charlotte Crofton was worked rigorously in the net, making six saves in the half. St. Norbert outshot Illinois College, 11-4, in the first period, while also collecting seven corner kicks.
St. Norbert turned it up in the second half, with Monica Stephans scoring the first of her two goals on the day only four minutes into the half. Sanderfoot found the back of the net twice within a four-minute span – once on a penalty -- bringing her season goal total up to seven, a team high. Morgan Kelly wrapped up the Green Knight's attack with her first goal of the season in the 70th minute.
Mackenzie Bedgood recorded four shots for the Lady Blues, with
Ashley Sholmire adding two shots on goal. Crofton finished the match with 14 saves for IC.
The Lady Blues take the field at England Stadium tomorrow for another conference matchup. Illinois College will take on Lawrence University beginning at 1 p.m.
