JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's soccer team had a few decent scoring chances on Saturday night, but couldn't cash any in and ended up on the wrong side of a 2-0 score line against visiting Concordia University (Chicago). The Lady Blues dropped to 1-5-0 on the season.
Charlotte Crofton was kept busy in goal, especially in the first half when she made seven saves for the Lady Blues. She kept Illinois College close, but Concordia (Chicago) finally broke the tie in the 43rd minute on a Cecilia Kochanek goal from the middle of the 18-yard box after a cross came in from the right wing and an attempted shot spun her way. IC had three shots in the first half, with
Mackenzie Bedgood putting an effort on goal.
Ashley Sholmire had an early chance to tie the match in the second half, but the Cougar defense was able to apply some pressure before she shot and Madeline Kroll made the save. Less than a minute later, Concordia (Chicago) doubled its lead on a long-distance effort from Samantha Goodlett. Illinois College had two shots the rest of the way, but another Sholmire shot was saved and
Mychaela Bennett shot wide.
Illinois College goes out on the road on Sept. 18, facing North Park University in Chicago at 7 p.m.
