JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team was swept by Millikin University on Wednesday night, falling 9-0. The Lady Blues fall to 3-5 on the season ahead of two Midwest Conference matches this weekend.
Millikin jumped on Illinois College early, winning all three doubles matches in dominating fashion. The closest of the three doubles matches came at No. 1, where
Sally Hixson and
Lisa Noggle lost to Molly Angell and Melissa Donovan, 8-2.
In singles,
Kalisa Goertz came the closest to earning the Lady Blues a point. The freshman took the first set from Danielle Beard at No. 5 singles, but Beard held on from there for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 victory. Hixson also performed well in the No. 1 singles match before succumbing to Morgan Bettner, 6-3, 6-2.
The Lady Blues return to the Bellatti Tennis Complex on Sept. 17 to take on Cornell College at 9 a.m. and Grinnell College at 1 p.m.
