BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University on Sunday. The loss drops the Lady Blues to 3-9 on the season.
Illinois Wesleyan moved away in the match quickly, sweeping doubles with 8-1 victories at Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
In singles action, both
Kathryn Ryan and
Madelyn Deardorff played their opponents to the wire in the first set, but took 6-4 defeats. Ryan ultimately went down by a score of 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 match. Deardorff lost, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6.
Sally Kate Hixson lost her No. 2 singles match, 6-2, 6-1.
Lena Reed was defeated at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.
Jovanna Chavez lost at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. The final match featured
Lisa Noggle at No. 5 and the IC junior fought back in the second set before falling, 6-1, 6-4.
Illinois College will be back home on April 2 for an exhibition match at the Bellatti Tennis Center against Lewis & Clark Community College. The match is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
