JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College swimming teams wrapped up the 2017 calendar year on Saturday with the IC Winter Quad Meet along with Knox College, Lincoln College and North Central College. The Lady Blues took the win over the Prairie Fire, while the Blueboys were victorious over Knox and North Central.
The afternoon began with the 200 Medley Relay. The Lady Blues produced a third-place finish in the race as
Hannah Baker,
Hannah Marks,
Marcella Jacquemain and
Lindsay Bruce combined for a time of 2:01.21. The men were second as
Ben Allen,
Oak Wattanasirakul,
Elijah Rhoad and
Mike Weisenfelder ended in 1:45.75.
The 1000 Freestyle began the individual events.
Maddie Headtke ended as the runner-up for the women's team in 12:55.54. The Blueboy duo of Allen and
Nick Amodeo took second and third as Allen finished in 11:13.61 and Amodeo touched in 12:46.53.
The first individual victory of the day belonged to Bruce with her time of 2:10.82 in the 200 Freestyle.
Audrey Earle was fourth in 2:19.45 and
Tia Parker took sixth in 2:26.65. For the men's team,
Martin Ambre won his event in 1:53.58, nearly 10 full seconds ahead of second place.
A number of sprint events were next up. Baker was second for the Lady Blues in the 50 Backstroke, finishing with a time of 30.59 seconds.
Abby Isham was fifth in 54.20 seconds.
In the 50 Breaststroke, Marks won with a time of 32.74 seconds. Wattanasirakul was the runner-up on the men's side in 29.64 seconds, while
Nick Smith was fourth in 33.37 seconds and Amodeo was eighth in 36.60 seconds.
In the 100 Butterfly, Jacquemain took third place in 1:09.71. Rhoad was the runner-up for the Blueboys in 58.96 seconds, while
Marshall Schmitz was fourth in 1:10.18.
Another sprint event, the 50 Freestyle, was the next race on the docket. Earle was fourth for the Lady Blues in 28.41 seconds. Parker was sixth in 29.65 seconds with Isham in 10th place in 39.42 seconds.
Olivia Cruthis swam an exhibition for the Lady Blues and had a time of 40.31 seconds. For the Blueboys, Weisenfelder was the runner-up in 23.79 seconds and Smith finished seventh in 28.38 seconds.
In the 100 Freestyle, the Lady Blues produced a 2-3-4 finish. Earle was the leader in 1:06.93, while Parker and Headtke were close behind in 1:08.29 and 1:08.53, respectively. Meanwhile, the Blueboys went 1-2 with Weisenfelder winning in 52.49 seconds and Ambre touching moments later in 53.02 seconds.
Baker had another solid result in the 100 Backstroke, ending in second place in 1:06.09. Allen was third for the Blueboys in 1:00.79.
Marks had her typical result in the 100 Breaststroke, winning the race in 1:12.03. Wattanasirakul and Smith took second and third for the Blueboys with Wattanasirakul clocking in at 1:04.06 and Smith touching the wall in 1:13.06.
The two teams claimed victories in both races of the 500 Freestyle. Bruce triumphed in the women's race in 5:52.42 with Headtke in fourth at 6:23.69. Ambre won the men's race in 5:14.63 with Amodeo placing third in 6:00.12.
In the last true sprint event, Jacquemain was fourth in the 50 Butterfly in 30.89 seconds. Rhoad was second for the Blueboys in 26.08 seconds and Schmitz ended in fifth with a time of 30.83 seconds. Schmitz would go on to add an eighth-place showing in the 100 IM in 1:14.03.
In the final event of the day, the women's 'A' team of Earle, Bruce, Baker and Marks swam a 1:51.42 to finish third in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The 'B' team of Jacquemain, Isham, Parker and Headtke combined for a 2:07.62 in an exhibition swim. The Blueboys won the 200 Freestyle Relay as Wattanasirakul, Ambre, Rhoad and Weisenfelder logged a 1:36.09. The 'B' team of Allen, Smith, Schmitz and Amodeo had an exhibition time of 1:46.66.
The Illinois College swimming teams will begin 2018 with a training trip to Florida, which includes a meet in Clermont, Fla. on Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. (EST).
