JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College swimming teams came up just short of a clean sweep on Saturday in its first home meet of the season. The Blueboys were successful in defeating visitors Knox College, Millikin University and Principia College. The Lady Blues defeated Knox and Principia, while coming up short against Millikin.
The day got off to a good start for both teams with wins for the Lady Blues and Blueboys in the 200 Medley Relay.
Audrey Earle,
Hannah Marks,
Marcella Jacquemain and
Lindsay Bruce combined on a time of 2:03.84 for a comfortable win in the women's race.
Ben Allen,
Oak Wattanasirakul,
Elijah Rhoad and
Mike Weisenfelder blew past the competition on the men's side, completing the event in 1:46.55.
Next up was the 1650 Freestyle.
Maddie Headtke took third for the Lady Blues in 22:28.26. On the men's side,
Martin Ambre submitted a winning time of 18:52.28. Following the mile, Bruce earned a runner-up finish in the 200 Freestyle (2:11.39).
The Illinois College teams had another sweep in the 100 Breaststroke. Marks had no trouble in the women's race, winning by more than seven seconds with a time of 1:13.64. Wattanasirakul and Allen went 1-2 on the men's side, with Wattanasirakul winning in 1:04.95 and Allen coming in second in 1:05.94.
In the 200 Butterfly, Jacquemain easily outpaced the competition for the Lady Blues with a winning time of 2:36.40. In the men's event, Rhoad was second in 2:17.15.
Sprint events followed soon after that. Earle took third for the Lady Blues in the 50 Freestyle (29.17) before Weisenfelder claimed the victory in the men's race (23.35). Marks then took second in the 100 Freestyle (1:00.95) while Ambre was third for the Blueboys (53.48).
The IC men had three more individual event wins on Saturday. Wattanasirakul took home the 200 Breaststroke in 2:21.49, Ambre won the 500 Freestyle in 5:28.96 and Allen touched in 4:51.42 to triumph in the 400 IM.
In the final event of the day, the team of Earle, Jacquemain, Marks and Bruce swam a 1:52.08 in the 200 Freestyle Relay to end in second place. The Blueboys' team of Wattanasirakul, Rhoad, Ambre and Weisenfelder equaled the Lady Blues with a second-place showing, swimming a time of 1:35.27.
Illinois College travels to Monmouth College next weekend, competing in the Monmouth College Invite on Nov. 11 starting at 1 p.m.
