Blueboys Battle to Goalless Draw at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team survived to tie Monmouth College, 0-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Scots had a 20-6 advantage in total shots, but Ty Clearwater made four saves on the four attempts that Monmouth steered on goal. The Blueboys move to 6-6-1 (1-2-1 Midwest Conference) on the season.

The biggest moment of the contest came within the first two minutes. Monmouth was awarded a penalty kick after 100 seconds of play, but Clearwater made the save on Agustin Miranda. Miranda had another effort saved by Clearwater in the 13th minute and the senior goalkeeper made another stop on Erick Hernandez in the 28th minute. For the Blueboys, Nick Copley had two shots on goal in the first half but both were saved by Chase Stroud.

Monmouth took all six of the shot attempts in the second half, but not a single one was on target. The Scots had two more in the first overtime that were also off-frame.

In the final 10 minutes, Alexis Zazueta started the overtime session with a shot in the 101st minute that forced a save from Stroud. Miranda had another shot saved by Clearwater in the 107th minute, the final shot on goal in the match. 

Illinois College continues its road trip with two matches in Wisconsin next weekend. First up is a 3:30 p.m. match at Ripon College on Oct. 14.
