LINCOLN, Ill. – The Illinois College men's and women's swimming teams lost dual meets on Saturday to Lincoln College, though the scores were slightly deceiving. The Blueboys lost by a score of 119-85, while the Lady Blues fell, 131-58. Each Lynx team racked up points in diving however, events that IC did not enter anyone to compete in.
Freshman
Aaron Payne was the big winner on Saturday for the men's team. Payne easily outpaced the competition in the 200 Freestyle (1:53.60) and he won the 100 Backstroke as well, ending with a time of 57.44 seconds.
Making a change to the IC record books yet again was
Martin Ambre in the 1000 Freestyle. The sophomore opened the season last weekend with a time of 11:09.93 that ranked fifth all-time for the Blueboys. On Saturday, Ambre lowered that time to 11:09.35, a mark that ranks fourth in that event.
In most every other event, the Blueboys and Lady Blues registered runner-up finishes. Starting the afternoon in the 200 Medley Relay, the Lady Blues were second with
Tia Parker,
Audrey Earle,
Brooke Bauer and
Maddie Headtke swimming to a time of 2:18.83. The Blueboys were second in that race with Payne,
Oak Wattanasirakul,
Elijah Rhoad and
Mike Weisenfelder ending in 1:45.35.
Headtke would quickly get back in the water to finish second in the 1000 Freestyle (13:23.09), a race that was followed by Ambre's solid performance in the same event.
In the 50 Freestyle, Weisenfelder notched a second-place showing (23.55). That event was followed by the 200 IM where
Marcella Jacquemain (2:31.60) and
Ben Allen (2:12.18) each finished second. That same tandem would be runners-up in the 100 Butterfly. Jacquemain touched the wall in 1:09.13, while Allen did the same in 1:01.20.
In the 100 Freestyle,
Hannah Marks just missed breaking the minute mark, settling for 1:00.42 Weisenfelder recorded a time of 54.32 in the event. Prior to Payne's win in the 100 Backstroke,
Hannah Baker finished second in the 100 Back, clocking a 1:09.87.
In the final individual races of the afternoon, Ambre was second in the 500 Freestyle (5:27.60), Earle was second in the 100 Breaststroke (1:32.14), and Nick Amedeo finished three-hundredths of a second ahead of Wattanasirakul to take second in the 100 Breast for the Blueboys (1:03.33).
The meet ended with the 200 Freestyle Relay. Baker, Marks, Jacquemain and
