Blueboys Come Up Empty on Wisconsin Trip

APPLETON, Wis. – The Illinois College men's soccer team fell to Lawrence University on Sunday by a score of 4-1. The Vikings pulled two goals ahead in the first half and scored two more in the second half before the Blueboys netted a consolation goal in the closing minutes. Lawrence improves to 3-5-0 (1-1-0 Midwest Conference), while IC drops to 1-5-2 (0-2-0 MWC).

The Blueboys lost despite a 21-11 advantage in shots. Illinois College had 11 shots in the first half and 10 more in the second half, but it was Lawrence who pulled ahead in the 20th minute on a goal from Robert Desotelle. With IC trying to make it to halftime down only one goal, the Vikings doubled their lead in the 40th minute as a turnover allowed Keanan Wilson to run unopposed towards Ty Clearwater and chip the IC keeper to make it 2-0.

Lawrence pulled ahead further in the second half with goals scored by Jack Blodgett in the 69th minute and Lewis Berger in the 75th minute. It wasn't until the 88th minute that Illinois College finally got a shot past Joe Krivit, with Ryan May collecting his third goal of the season to match Brock Ziegemeier for the team lead.

Illinois College goes back out on the road next weekend, facing Grinnell College in MWC play on Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. before stepping out of conference on Oct. 2 to play Dominican University at 2:30 p.m.
