Box Score
GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday night with a 2-0 shutout of Greenville College. The Blueboys limited the Panthers to two shots on goal and both Nick Copley and Alexis Zazueta scored their first career goals in the second half to lift IC to victory. The Blueboys improve to 1-3-2 on the season while the Panthers sink to 3-4-1.

Following a scoreless first 45 minutes, Illinois College pressed forward early in the second half and scored with five minutes elapsed. Copley took a feed from Ryan May in the left side of the 18-yard box and slid a ball low past the Greenville keeper to put the Blueboys ahead.

The Panthers were in need of a goal to tie the match and nearly got one as a cross came all the way through the box and never took a touch. The cross was goal-bound until Ty Clearwater dove to bat the ball away and keep Illinois College in front.

The Blueboys got some insurance in the 75th minute when Brock Chartier delivered a pass to Zazueta and he used his first touch to beat the keeper and give IC a 2-0 lead.

IC ended with a 12-6 advantage in shots in the contest, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Copley ended with four shots in the match, while Clearwater had a pair of saves to pick up his first shutout of the season.

Illinois College begins Midwest Conference play this weekend with a pair of road matches in Wisconsin. The Blueboys open conference action at St. Norbert on Sept. 24 with a 1 p.m. kick and play Lawrence on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
