By: Despite a few close calls, the IC women’s tennis team failed to pick up a point in a 9-0 loss to Millikin University on Tuesday afternoon.
DECATUR, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team was tripped up by Millikin University in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 9-0. The Lady Blues were close in a handful of matches, most notably at No. 1 singles where
Kathryn Ryan dropped a third-set tiebreaker.
The Big Blue took a 3-0 lead on the Lady Blues following doubles play. Ryan and
Sally Kate Hixson had the best showing for IC, falling by a score of 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles, Ryan took the first set of her No. 1 match by a score of 6-2 before falling 6-0 and 10-7 the rest of the way.
Lena Reed came very close to forcing a third-set tiebreaker of her own, coming up short at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-4. At No. 6 singles,
Madelyn Deardorff was upended 6-2, 6-3.
The Lady Blues will be in search of a Midwest Conference victory next week when they pay a visit to Monmouth College on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m.
