MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Illinois College women's tennis team fell on Saturday in a pair of Midwest Conference matches against tradition conference heavyweights Grinnell College and Cornell College. The Lady Blues lost to the Pioneers, 9-0, in the morning session and were defeated by a score of 8-1 in the afternoon against the Rams. Lisa Noggle turned in the winning performance for IC against Cornell at No. 5 singles.

Grinnell kept its perfect MWC record intact on Saturday morning with a quick defeat of Illinois College. The Pioneers won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-0. Three of the six singles matches were clean sweeps at love. Sally Kate Hixson, Lena Reed and Jovanna Chavez each took one game but were defeated at Nos. 2, 3 and 4.

Cornell gave IC the same treatment in the afternoon to also maintain a perfect MWC record halfway through the season. The Rams went ahead with three doubles wins, though Kathryn Ryan and Hixson were competitive at No. 1 doubles before falling, 8-4.

In singles play, Noggle earned a hard-fought 6-3, 0-6, 16-14 victory over Janice Elkerton for a point at No. 5. Madelyn Deardorff was also in her match at No. 6 singles before falling 6-1, 7-5.

The Lady Blues will make a mid-week non-conference road trip to Millikin University on Sept. 20. The match will get started in Decatur, Ill. at 3:30 p.m.
