By: Missing Kathryn Ryan at No. 1 singles, the Lady Blues were unable to overcome a 2-1 deficit after doubles action on Sunday morning.
JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team fell to Ripon College on Sunday by a score of 7-2. The Lady Blues won at No. 1 doubles, but were missing No. 1 singles player
Kathryn Ryan and the Red Hawks came away with every singles point except at No. 6.
Ryan and
Sally Kate Hixson teamed up for a No. 1 doubles win by a score of 8-2 over Maddie VandenHouten and Morgan Makar, but a chance for a lead after doubles came up just short as
Lena Reed and
Madelyn Deardorff fell by a score of 8-6 at No. 3.
With Ryan nursing an injury, everyone in the lineup was bumped up a spot and the Red Hawks were able to take five of the six singles matches.
Sara Timberlake earned her first collegiate win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 over Ripon's Lily Lenk. Deardorff came up just shy at No. 5, falling 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 6-10. Hixson,
Jovanna Chavez and
Lisa Noggle also were nicked in two-set singles matches that were down to the wire.
Illinois College will travel to Iowa for a pair of Midwest Conference matches on Sept. 17, facing Grinnell College at 9 a.m. and concluding the day against Cornell College at 3 p.m.
