RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team fell behind for a second time late in the first half and could not find the tying goal in a 3-2 loss at Concordia University (Chicago) on Sunday. The Blueboys received the second goals of the season from
Ryan May and
Brock Ziegemeier on the afternoon.
Concordia took the lead in the 28th minute on a Dan Krajewski goal. Krajewski jetted through the middle of the IC defense and beat
Ty Clearwater with a low shot to the right corner for a 1-0 lead.
Illinois College would square the match at 1-1 less than six minutes later. May received a pass from
Roger Mies and slotted home for his second goal in as many matches.
The tie would only last until the 38th minute. Concordia went on top again, 2-1, with Dillen Mayfield scoring his first of the season to send the teams to the half with Illinois College trailing.
About 10 minutes after the restart, the Cougars added a third goal as Krajewski netted a brace. With the ball on the right side of the box, Krajewski was able to shoot across goal and score to the left corner for a 3-1 advantage.
Illinois College had one last push as Ziegemeier received a ball over the top from Mies and scored to pull the Blueboys back within one with 25 minutes still to play. IC would only get two more shots off the rest of the way though. May took both of them, one going high and the other saved by Concordia keeper Zachary Adamec.
The Blueboys next travel to Webster University for a Wednesday night match with the Gorloks on Sept. 14. First kick is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
