Four School Records Fall in Opening Swim Meet of 2016-17

LINCOLN, Ill. – The Illinois College men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2016-17 season on Saturday in a dual meet at Lincoln College. Though the Blueboys and Lady Blues each fell to the Lynx, school records were set by both teams.

In the first individual event of the day, Marcella Jacquemain broke her own school record with a time of 12:33.81 in the 1000 Freestyle. Next up, freshman Martin Ambre also broke a school record in his first collegiate swim, going 11:06.75 in the 1000 Freestyle to win by nearly 40 seconds.

Following Ambre's record, another freshman got in on the act. Lindsay Bruce swam a 2:06.31 in the 200 Freestyle for yet another IC program best. She later added another record in the 500 Freestyle, swimming a 5:49.40.

In the 50 Freestyle, Audrey Earle came in second in 28.13. On the men's side, the Blueboys went 1-2-3 in the 50, with Mike Weisenfelder winning it in 23.17 and Brady Burden (24.48) and Luigi Erba (25.54) following him.

Freshman Hannah Marks won twice on Saturday, finishing with the second-best times in IC history in each race. Marks started it off with a victory in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:23.04. Later in the day, she claimed the 100 Breaststroke in 1:11.03. For the Blueboys, Oak Wattanasirakul placed second in both of those same events, swimming the 200 IM in 2:12.96 and the 100 Breast in 1:03.13.

The final event win for IC came from Weisenfelder in the 100 Freestyle as he narrowly edged out Lincoln's JD Keister in 51.58, winning by .08 of a second. Notching runner-up finishes were Jacquemain in the 100 Butterfly (1:08.86), Eli Rhoad in the 100 Fly (58.61), Ben Allen in the 100 Backstroke (1:02.78), and Ambre in the 500 Freestyle (5:25.22).

Illinois College comes home for the first meet of the season at Coultas Natatorium on Nov. 5 as the Blueboys and Lady Blues welcome in Knox College, Millikin University and Principia College at 1 p.m.
