LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team was defeated in its final road match of the 2016 season on Sunday, giving up three goals in the first half in a 3-0 loss to Lake Forest College. The Blueboys come home to Jacksonville with a 3-10-3 record (2-5-0 Midwest Conference), while Lake Forest stayed alive in its bid to host the MWC Tournament, improving to 9-7-0 (7-1-0 MWC).
Lake Forest's John Cappuccitti was the star of the match and he supplied the assist on the opening goal by Lucas Geib in the 30th minute. Up to that point,
Ty Clearwater had made three saves to keep the Foresters scoreless, but the floodgates opened thereafter. Within the next 15 minutes, Cappuccitti had bagged a brace, scoring in the 37th minute off of a Fernando Figueroa assist and adding an unassisted goal in the 45th minute.
That was all the offense that Lake Forest needed. Illinois College had one shot in the first half, an effort from
Ethan Thurman that was saved by Tero Elias, In the second half, IC had three shots but only one was on goal.
Brock Chartier's shot in the 62nd minute was also saved by Elias to complete the shutout.
Illinois College plays its final two matches at England Stadium. First up is an Oct. 26 match against Monmouth College slated for a 7 p.m. start.
