FULTON, Mo. – The Illinois College men's soccer team fell in its final non-conference match of the season on Thursday night, dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Westminster College (MO). The Blueboys went ahead in the first half, but the Blue Jays came back to tie the match in the second half and scored the game-winner less than three minutes into the extra session. IC falls to 3-9-3 on the year while Westminster improves to 9-3-1.

Illinois College struggled to find openings in the first half against a staunch Westminster defense, but the Blueboys took the lead in the 23rd minute. After two yellow cards were awarded to Blue Jay players, Alexis Zazueta scored immediately off the restart to stake IC to a 1-0 advantage. Ty Clearwater made five saves the rest of the first half to keep the Blueboys in front.

Westminster continued to have difficulty breaking through the IC defense through the early portion of the second half, but the Blue Jays tied the match in the 67th minute when Daniel Barone scored off of a rebound. That sent the match into overtime, where, after a shot sailed high from Barone, Mauricio Mateo scored to end it in the 93rd minute.

Clearwater ended with eight saves in the match in goal for Illinois College. Other than Zazueta's goal, the other two shots for the Blueboys were each taken by Brock Chartier, one of which was on goal.

Illinois College returns to Midwest Conference play this weekend, traveling to take on Lake Forest College on Oct. 23 at 11 a.m.
