JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team earned its first Midwest Conference victory of the season, knocking off Ripon College by a score of 1-0 on the strength of a
Brock Chartier goal in the 50th minute. The Blueboys improve to 2-8-3 (1-4-0 MWC) on the season, while Ripon drops to 4-9-0 (0-5-0 MWC).
IC played on the front foot most of the way, outshooting Ripon 6-1 in the first half and 8-5 in the second half. Chartier immediately challenged Ripon keeper Jimmy Amedeo with a shot on goal 22 seconds into the match. Later on, both
Justin Hill and
Collin Basler would force saves from Amedeo, but Ripon did enough to keep the Blueboys off the board and the match went to halftime in a 0-0 tie.
Brock Ziegemeier started the second half by whistling a shot high, but Illinois College broke through less than a minute later when
Alexis Zazueta played a through ball to Chartier and he slotted home past Amedeo to give the Blueboys the lead. It was all
Ty Clearwater from there as the IC goalkeeper made four saves down the stretch to seal the win.
Chartier ended with a match-high five shots while
Roger Mies launched three, two of which were on frame. Basler also had two shots for the Blueboys.
Illinois College will look to make it two in a row when it faces off with Beloit College at England Stadium tomorrow at 11 a.m.
