DECATUR, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team fell in its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday afternoon, losing to Millikin University on the road, 9-0. The Lady Blues were without the services of No. 1 singles player
Kathryn Ryan and went into the match trailing 2-0 due to two defaults in her singles and doubles matches.
The 2-0 deficit for Illinois College grew to 4-0 after doubles was completed.
Brianna Pohlman and
Jovanna Chavez were defeated at No. 2, 8-0. At No. 1,
Tamar Norville and
Lisa Noggle fell by a score of 8-3.
In singles, only Norville took a match to a third set. Playing No. 1, Norville went down after a 6-3 loss in the first set but came back to win the second set, 6-3. In a third-set tiebreaker, Millikin's Taylor Stanchin, 10-3. Noggle, Chavez, Pohlman and
Valerie Escudero all went down in straight sets.
The Lady Blues will send a team to the ITA Regional this weekend in Kalamazoo, Mich., competing on Oct. 3. Illinois College will return to team action on Oct. 10 with a pair of Midwest Conference matches, starting with Ripon College at 9 a.m. from the Bellatti Tennis Complex.
