MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Illinois College men's soccer team kept the momentum going on Saturday in a road match at Cornell College, winning a fifth straight match and improve to 8-2-0 (2-0-0 Midwest Conference) after a 2-0 shutout of the Rams. Ty Clearwater notched his fourth clean sheet of the season and two first half goals were enough to seal the victory.

The Blueboys scored the game-winning goal in the 13th minute on an unassisted effort by Austin Cearlock, his first of the season. Clearwater kept Illinois College ahead with a pair of saves in the middle portion of the first half and the IC lead was doubled in the 38th minute as Jordan Blair scored off an assist from Roger Mies to make it 2-0 at the break.

The teams combined for just eight shots after halftime and Clearwater was there for three saves to continue to deny Cornell to the end. The Blueboys only had two shots on target against Cornell's Jerome Richards, but were content to stay solid in the back and protect their two-goal lead.

Illinois College ended with 10 shots total, compared to seven for Cornell. Of the 10, Joe Tooley had three, two of which were on goal and forced a save from Richards. Seven other Blueboys had one shot each. Clearwater made five saves in the victory.

IC will have a week to prepare for its next challenge. The Blueboys host a MWC doubleheader on Oct. 3 and 4, first welcoming in Lawrence University to England Stadium on Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m.
