JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team had high expectations on Sunday against Beloit College, but the Buccaneers didn't go along with IC's plans. Though the match was tied at 2-2 at one point, Beloit reeled off five straight wins in singles down the stretch to get a 7-2 win and drop the Lady Blues to 1-6 (0-5 Midwest Conference).

The doubles team of Brianna Pohlman and Valerie Escudero played well to get an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to earn the first point of the match. Moments after that match ended however, Beloit evened the score with a win at No. 2 doubles over Lisa Noggle and Jovanna Chavez. At No. 1, Kathryn Ryan and Tamar Norville had a 5-2 lead slip away and end with an 8-6 loss to give the Buccaneers a 2-1 lead in the match going into singles.

Pohlman was quick to end her match at No. 5 singles, crushing Beloit's Allison Vance 6-1, 6-0. The match was 2-2 with five singles matches still playing, but the rest all went Beloit's way. Noggle led Sarah Rapp 4-3 in the first set at No. 3, but lost a 6-4, 6-0 decision. At No. 1, Ryan was in each set with Trina Capelli but fell 6-3, 6-4. With the outcome already decided, the last remaining match was No. 4 singles. Chavez did well to force a third-set tiebreaker against Kiri Youngquist, but the Beloit player had just enough in the tank to eke out a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 win.

Illinois College will need to regroup quickly with another MWC match right around the corner. The Lady Blues welcome Knox to the Bellatti Tennis Complex on Tuesday night starting at 5 p.m.
