9/19/2015 9:08:00 PM

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's tennis team played better than the final scores would indicate, but the Lady Blues didn't have enough in the tank to overcome Lake Forest College and Carroll University on Saturday. IC dropped a 9-0 decision to Lake Forest and an 8-1 match to Carroll to fall to 1-5 (0-4 MWC) on the season.

Starting off the day against Lake Forest, the doubles team of Kathryn Ryan and Tamar Norville produced the best chance at a point, but lost an 8-4 match to Christi Valicenti and Grace Dowling. The Foresters took a 3-0 lead with 8-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. In singles, both Ryan and Norville lost 6-1, 6-2 at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Brianna Pohlman played well in the second set but fell to Zoe Maurer at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3.

Later in the day, Carroll dominated the doubles portion of the match to again take a 3-0 lead on the Lady Blues. Lisa Noggle battled Shanna Mogden at No. 3 singles but lost a 6-3, 6-0 match as the Pioneers pulled away to seal the victory. The bright spot for Illinois College came from Ryan, who swarmed over her competition at No. 1 singles. The freshman defeated Megan Krzewinski 6-0, 6-4 to pick up the first Midwest Conference win of her career.

Illinois College will be back in action at the Bellatti Tennis Complex on Sunday, meeting Beloit College at 10 a.m.
