APPLETON, Wis. – The Illinois College women's basketball team took control of its road contest with Lawrence University in the second quarter, ending the half on a 10-0 run that extended out to 14-0 in the third quarter to put away the Vikings by a final of 56-41. The Lady Blues improve to 4-2 (2-0 Midwest Conference) with the victory.

The first quarter started well for Illinois College. Jill Friedrich and Melissa Solorio knocked down three-pointers in the first two minutes to stake the Lady Blues to a 6-0 lead and a Brielle Greenleaf trey made it 9-2 before the Vikings began to work their way back into it. Lawrence answered back with a 9-3 run of its own over the final 7:25 of the quarter to cut IC's lead to only 12-11 after 10 minutes.

After Lawrence took its first lead of the game at 13-12, Illinois College retook the lead on threes from Greenleaf and Ashley Hoegger that made it 18-13. A 7-0 run from the Vikings followed however, giving the home team a 20-18 lead and forcing a timeout from IC.

Whatever was talked about in the huddle worked. A 10-0 run in the last 5:09 of the first half gave Illinois College a 28-20 edge at the half. Friedrich tied the contest at 20-20 and Greenleaf accounted for three points to make it 23-20. Shannen Quehl scored the last five points of the half for the Lady Blues.

More than four minutes of the third quarter went by before Lawrence got back into the scoring column. An Olivia Hoesley three-pointer ended the long drought, but IC had upped its lead to 32-23 by that point. Alyssa Garde and Hoegger each knocked in triples in the middle of the quarter to help the Lady Blues take a 40-30 advantage into the fourth.

The first three points of the fourth quarter went to Illinois College, ensuring that the Lady Blues stayed comfortably ahead. A Jaicie Halleman jumper increased the lead to 47-33 and Mallory Battefeld scored in the paint with three minutes to play to give IC its largest lead at 52-36. The final four points of the game for the Lady Blues all came at the charity stripe to seal the victory.

Greenleaf led IC's scorers with 11 points and had five rebounds. Solorio notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Friedrich also had 10 points along with five rebounds. Garde, Hoegger and Quehl all had six points each off the bench.

The Lady Blues return home on Dec. 8 for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Sherman Gymnasium against Knox College.
