GREENVILLE, Ill. – A tight and chippy game went the way of Greenville College on Saturday night, giving the Illinois College men's soccer team its first loss of the 2014 season. Alex Gardner put the Blueboys ahead in the eighth minute and the team peppered GC goalkeeper Thomas Crown the rest of the match but couldn't find a second goal.

Early on, it appeared that IC wouldn't be hard-pressed for another victory. Gardner's goal gave the Blueboys a well-deserved 1-0 advantage and the team went into halftime with an 11-7 edge in shots.

Greenville pulled even in the 65th minute with a penalty kick from Spencer Pulliam. In the dying minutes of the match, it was Pulliam who then played Dillon Czech free for the game-winner.

Of the 18 shots that Illinois College took in the match, 14 were on target. If not for Crown – who ended with 13 saves on the night – the Panthers would have been easily overmatched.

Anthony Willard led IC with five shots, all of them requiring a save from Crown. Josue Hernandez added four shots, with three of them on frame. Goalkeeper Scott Workman made six saves in the contest.

The Blueboys (3-1-0) are back home at England Stadium on Wednesday night to face Fontbonne University under the lights. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's contest.
