Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The defensive domination continues from the Illinois College men's soccer team. It's now 270 minutes and counting without a goal allowed as the Blueboys piled on in the second half en route to an 8-0 victory in a Mayor's Cup battle with the crosstown MacMurray Highlanders. Christian Rwiyaza had a hat trick for the Blueboys.

The scoring started just short of eight minutes in as Josue Hernandez finished off a goal that was on the doorstep. Brock Chartier set up the score with a dicing run through the defense. Less than two minutes later, Denpota Furugaki was the recipient of a Chartier feed that was played square and knocked in with a simple finish to make it 2-0 in the 10th minute.  Joe Tooley finished off the sequence by running onto a ball played ahead by Furugaki and deking MacMurray goalkeeper Tyler Marfo to make it 3-0 in the opening quarter of an hour.

MacMurray had five shots – though none were on goal – courtesy of Mason Rowe in the first 24 minutes. After that, the Highlanders would not record another shot the rest of the match. With the defense dug in, goalkeeper Scott Workman didn't even need to record a save in earning the shutout.

In the second half, Andrew Matheney got the Blueboy offense going again in the 50th minute to up the advantage to 4-0. Then Rwiyaza took over, putting three goals on the board in a span of 15 minutes. His first two were simple touches after Jordan Nelson and Mesfin Lenth worked deep into the MacMurray box. He finished the hat trick with a one-on-one maneuver past Marfo to make it 7-0. The final nail in the coffin came off a header from Nick Roth after a Nelson corner kick.

Illinois College looks to keep its undefeated record and defensive shutout streak going on Saturday night. The Blueboys travel to face Greenville College at 7 p.m.
